Six days after the Watergate break-in, President Richard Nixon and White House Chief of Staff, H.R. Haldeman had a meeting in the oval office were they discussed ways to obstruct the FBI’s investigation. All of Nixon's meetings were recorded and Special Prosecutor, Leon Jaworski, obtained a subpoena that ordered Nixon to hand over these recordings. When Nixon only turned over edited versions of the tapes claiming executive privilege, the case made it's way to the SCOTUS where the court unanimously ruled that Nixon must turn over the unedited tapes. This tape lead to the collapse of Nixon's public and congressional support and he would resign on August 9, 1974.
